1) Newcastle United are regarded as one of the greatest teams in England, having success in the 1960s-1970s and their most dominant period in the 1990s under the nickname "The Entertainers".
2) Leeds United also had success in the 1960s-1970s but have struggled since being relegated multiple times, now playing in the third division, much to the despair of supporter Brendon.
3) The two clubs have a fierce rivalry dating back to 1898 and engage in the TyneWear derby annually, with Newcastle currently achieving more success than Leeds.
2. Newcastle United
Newcastle United are widely regarded as the greatest team in
England. Some even speculate that they may be the greatest
club on planet Earth.
3. Glory Years
Newcastle won the much-coveted Inter-city Fairs Cup in 1969, and have won four
League Championship titles and six FA Cups. The club's most successful period was
between 1904 and 1910, when they won an FA Cup and three of their First
Division titles.
4. The Golden 90卒s
When I was growing up, Newcastle were at their best.
The team was labelled "The Entertainers, due to their attacking style of football
and skilful players like David Ginola, Les Ferdinand and the great Alan Shearer.
We came second in the Premier League twice, behind Manchester United both
times, and were very unlucky never to win the league. We also reached two FA
Cup finals.
We had another excellent season in 2003/04 under the legendary Bobby Robson.
My two best memories of supporting Newcastle came in the Golden era of the
1990卒s. The first, when we thrashed Manchester United 5-0 and Philippe Albert
lobbed Peter Schmeichal. The second, a 3-2 victory over Barcelona in the
Champions league.
5. Rivalry with Sunderland
They have a fierce local rivalry with Sunderland, and the two clubs have engaged in
the TyneWear derby since 1898. It is one of the fiercest derbies in English
football.
6. This year we won 1-0 thanks to a beautiful free-kick from superstar Ryan Taylor,
and last year we beat the dirty Mackems 5-1!

7. The Fans
Newcastle fans are renowned for following their team through thick and
thin. They regularly attracted crowds of over 50,000 in the season that
they were relegated to the Championship. The passionate supporters
often stand shirtless in St. James卒 Park, where temperatures in the cold
North Eastern city of Newcastle can drop below -5C. Our most famous fan
is the legendary Jimmy Five Bellies.
13. A long time ago, in a galaxy far, far,
away
Leeds United used to be the best team in England. They
dominated English football in the early 60卒s and early 70卒s
under manager Don Revie. Despite their success during this
era, much of it was down to their violent tactics. They were
nicknamed 卒dirty Leeds卒.
14. Leeds in the late 1990s early 2000卒s
Leeds had great players like Mark Viduka, Harry Kewell, Jimmy Floyd
Hasselbaink, Rio Ferdinand and Alan Smith. They came third in the
league in 1998 and did themselves proud in Europe, reaching the
semi-finals of the Champions league the next season.
15. Since then
Unfortunately, the wheels fell off for Leeds.
They were relegated twice, reaching the lowly depths of the third tier of English
football, where Brendon used to go and watch them play at exotic grounds like
Oldham, Stockport and Darlington.
16. The Leeds fans are a tough bunch. They have had to put up with much pain
over the years. They were recently thrashed by arch rivals Manchester
United卒s reserve team, and lost 5-0 last week to Blackpool.

17. Frequency Adverbs:
Newcastle ALWAYS win. They NEVER lose.
Leeds SOMETIMES lose 5-0. Brendon cries EVERY weekend that they
play.
Please be kind to Brendon, he has had a very hard time supporting little Leeds
and has been left emotionally scared.
These are our football teams.
Thank you
