This document discusses the epidemiology and staging of ovarian cancer. It notes that ovarian cancer is the leading cause of gynecologic cancer death worldwide, with an average lifetime risk of 1 in 70. Symptoms usually occur in advanced stages and include abdominal pain, bloating, and back pain. Staging ranges from Stage I, which is confined to one or both ovaries, to Stage IV, which involves distant metastasis. Screening methods have not yet demonstrated a mortality benefit.
