Outline of ResearchWe did a wide amount of research, generally our film posters are all of a similar genre because these are the types of films which we both enjoy and have quite a few similarities to our film. We chose to look at a wider range of short films, we did this into to see how different meanings can be achieved through shots ands transitions etc. but also so that we could use quite a broad range of ideas within our film, in order to get higher marks but having numerous shots etc.We wanted our film to appeal to a wider range of people, because if you have loads of criteria of how exactly you want your target audience to be it doesnt give you a lot of Leigh way to have a lot of variety within your film because you will be too focused on your specific target audience.Seen as our film has This is England style to it with the clothing and comedic characters we have tried to make our film appeal to quite a wide variety of audience the same way in which we have done so.
How research impacted your planningQuite a lot of our planning was based on our research; we had both a short film called wheres the money Ronnie? which is also by Shane Meadows. Therefore we thought it would be more effective having our film in black and white, because it looks a bit more professional and try to have the storyline quite comedic.Once we got our story all planned out in our minds we got a better idea of how we can make it work, we took a lot of ideas from Meadows films in the fact that we chose the interview scene to be just of the person getting interviewed. This is because doing it in this way takes up less time and is a lot more effective because it feels like the character is genuinely talking to you.
Planning processOur planning process generally ran quite smoothly, the only bits that we found difficult were things such as getting the script done. This is because we wanted to make it sound very much like a group of lads and tried to make the text something that they would all say. Once we got to filming the guys altered the script and generally made it their own anyway, this meant we had to do quite a lot of redrafting our scripts. We had a few technical problems whilst we were in the planning stages also, for example one lesson my computer crashed and I lost all of the work that I had done during that lesson. This set us back a bit of time, but we managed to get back on track quite quickly.
How we were more creative in our workWe tried to make our work as creative as possible, for example with our location Reece by using Google maps and print screening all the roads in Henley which we were going to use.We had all of our work displayed on a blog, this is quite a different format rather than having a folder full of our work which tends to get a bit tedious. We didnt use stop frame animation within our film because we didnt really find it was needed, but at the end of last year I created a short stop frame animation which was quite simple but looked effective therefore I think it would have been a nice effect to put in but it wouldnt have really had a place within our film, and we didnt want it to just appear and look really random.Obviously for our ancillary tasks we used the digital camera and edited the images on Photoshop, this was a different way of creating our film poster and marketing campaign. This was better for us because it meant we could capture the actual characters from the film rather than using an image from Google in order to create the film poster, which wouldnt have been very creative and wouldnt have looked half as effective as we think our ancillary tasks do so now.
Success of short filmGenerally we think our short film has turned out quite successfulIt took quite a lot of time due to people not being in college or not having their costume with themMeant we got quite behind on the filming and editing stages because we were using our editing time for filming. We had a few difficulties with the actual software as well, for example whilst Jordan was editing and the computer crashed which meant his 2 hours of editing were gone. This put us back quite a lot meaning that we couldnt show our film to the class and gain audience feedback that way, instead we had to get our audience feedback elsewhere from our friends.
