Your calling as a Parent
A vessel for the growth, development
and evolution of humanity through
whom souls incarnate on earth to
further the cause of their existence
 When fellow human beings come
through you as children, you are to
create the earthly circumstances for
them to grow in a way that is pleasing
to GOD.
Training and guiding our children to be true human
beings is way beyond dressing.
In the words of Oprah Winfrey, we are here to
evolve.that is we are to grow and develop along
the following lines
 Spiritual
 Psychological
 Social
 Educational
 Building their personality/Character
One core value we must help to grow in our
our children revolves around the concept of self esteem:
 Self worth
 Self regard
 Self acceptance
 Faith in oneself
 Dignity
 Morale
 Self-confidence
 Self-assurance
Outward Signs of Self Esteem
Following are some outward signs of positive
self-esteem:
 Self-direction
 An awareness of personal strengths
 An ability to solve problems
 An independent attitude
 Good self-care
A good sense of personal limitations and
vulnerability
 The ability to say NO!
The ability to say NO TO FASHION!
Adolescents receive training/guidance
primarily from four sources:
Parents in early childhood this is the strongest
Teachers guide students based on their own
worldview and experience
 Peers classmates, friends (familiar and
unfamiliar), neighbours, etc
Media the strongest influence from films,
video musicals, social media, celebrities
Guiding the adolescent dress sense
A key value that goes along with self-esteem is teaching children
about our CULTURE of modesty and moderation in dressing.
..Talking about the AFRICAN CULTURE.
Flaunting nudity is a taboo in our culture
Provocative and sensual dress sense that highlight hips and
boobs are not in our culture
Short and skimpy clothes do not belong to us
Cross gender dressing is un-Africa
Clothes should be long enough to cover your knees when seated
Sagging and wearing of artificial dreadlocks
Wearing unnatural colour of hair
Right choice of footware
Harmonious colour combination
How can we help our children always:
 Pray for them
 Communication
Be friends with your adolescent child
 Know their friends
 Know their world of influence
 TV , Celebrities
 Social media. Facebook, Instagram ..etc
