 cultivate awareness, space, and
support in your grieving process
What is Cumulative Grief?
 Also known as "compounded grief" or "frequent grief"
 Grief occurring more than once in a short period of time
 Grief that can include:
oWork
oLegal
oFinancial
oFamily/Friend structure
oIdentity
Cumulative Grief is not
always Prolonged Grief
 Difference of cumulative grief &
prolonged grief disorder
 Prolonged grief: also known as
traumatic or complicated grief
o Disrupt daily activity/functioning
o Ongoing disbelief of loss
o Avoidance of reminders of loss
o Emotional Numbness
o Detached/Disassociated
o Must persist for at least 1 year
