Paul Revere was a silversmith living in Boston from 1735 to 1775. During this time period, tensions grew between the English colonists in America and the English in Britain. The English began imposing new taxes on the colonies and restricting their freedoms. On the night of April 18, 1775, Paul Revere rode through the streets of Boston warning that the English were coming. His famous midnight ride helped spark the beginning of the Revolutionary War between the colonists and the English. The war would not end until 1783 when America gained its independence.
