The students from the Professional Communications and Leadership program at Armstrong Atlantic State University are requesting permission to start a major-oriented club as a recognized student organization. A petition garnered interest from 15 students, and Meet and Greets held during lunch and in the evening had 5 and 6 attendees respectively. The proposed club could provide opportunities for alumni to share experiences with undergraduates and serve as speakers for leadership programs, fostering participation and community leadership. The club may also help build future alumni pride and participation by connecting current alumni with PCL club members and undergraduates.

The Texas outbreak has slowed down, but sporadic cases continue to emerge in Kansas, Oklahoma, and New Mexico.
Elsewhere in the US, we continue to see signs of acceleration due to outbreaks outside the Southwest (North Dakota, Montana, and Colorado) and travel-related cases. Measles exposures due to travel are expected to pose a significant challenge throughout the summer.
The U.S. is on track to exceed its 30-year high for measles cases (1,274) within the next two weeks.

New Mexico: 81 (83% of cases are from Lea County).
Oklahoma: 20 (+2)

Texas: 96 (+2) This accounts for 13% of all cases in Texas.
New Mexico: 7 This accounts for 9.47% of all cases in New Mexico.

March 7, 2014 Armstrong SAC Committee Armstrong Atlantic State University 11935 Abercorn Street Savannah, GA 31419 油 Dear Armstrong SAC Committee, The students of the Professional Communications and Leadership program would like to request permission to found a major-oriented club as a recognized student organization. A petition of interest was used to gauge how many people might join the group if it were created. Our petition garnered 15 names. Also, we recently held a lunch-time Meet and Greet. Five people attend the event and more expressed that they would be able to attend evening activities, if scheduled. We have scheduled our second Meet and Greet for the evening of March 19 and already have 6 RSVPs for the event. This club affords many possibilities for giving back to the Armstrong community. Many of our students are older and experienced in their fields and would be willing to share their experiences with the undergraduate student body. We see the possibility of serving as speakers and examples of leadership for undergraduate groups such as the Nick Mamalakis Emerging Leaders program. This fosters participation from the PCL students and serves as an example of community leadership for the undergraduate students. We also hope the club will serve as a bridge for building future alumni pride and participation. The current alumni can reach out to guide the PCL club members and then PCL can reach out to undergraduates. These are but a few of the possible ideas for how this club might be useful to the Armstrong community. We certainly appreciate your consideration in this matter.
