My position as Chief of Bureau in Deccan Chronicle, Chennai and as Chief of Bureau in Puthiya
Thalaimurai TV have helped these media houses immensely. The circulation of Deccan
Chronicle newspaper went up considerably during my six-month stint as Bureau Chief there. The
ratings of Puthiya Thalaimurai TV has been consistently among the top-performing Tamil news
channels during my eleven month stint as Bureau Chief there. When decision-making roles are
given to me in different media houses, my leadership has inspired many young professionals.
Many young professionals trained by me have become leaders in their own spheres of activity in
the media.

A. As Senior Editor News Features at Thanthi TV, I made over fifty documentary films on
socially relevant themes such as water, urban poverty, women empowerment, e-waste,
global warming, Sri Lankan Tamil refugees, LGBT rights, folk arts, sex workers,
adoption, migrant workers, prison reforms, Madarasa reforms, prehistory, rock paintings,
rag pickers, volunteerism, folk arts, development issues.

B. After a decade-long stint in Print media houses, my foray into Television reporting has
been eventful. My live commentaries on Jayalalithaas rallies and political developments
in Tamil Nadu at NDTV-HINDU caught the attention of the audience. My live reporting
on local body elections in Tamil Nadu for Puthiya Thalaimurai TV received accolades.
3. As Acting Chief of Bureau for Puthiya Thalaimurai TV, I trained reporters in writing to
visuals and enabled them to think visually while presenting news stories.
C. I have handled several breaking news situations from inside the newsroom and from
outside the newsroom at both NDTV HINDU and Puthiya Thalaimurai TV. Willing to
Anchor/Report on such emerging news situations.
D. As Special Correspondent in Puthiya Thalaimurai TV, I covered the Tamil Nadu State
Government and State Assembly. I have done exclusive reportage on environmental
pollution due to coal handling at Chennai Port. Other than this I have many breaking
news stories to my credit, especially from the AIADMK government. I have handled the
Chennai Bureau for over a year under the guidance of Mr S. Srinivasan, Group Editor,
New Generation Media Corporation, Chennai. During this period I trained a dozen new
entrants in TV reporting, held weekly meetings to generate ideas and submitted daily and
weekly plans of action.
E. Covered political parties in Tamil Nadu AIADMK, DMK, MDMK, DMDK and
AISMK for Deccan Chronicle and NDTV HINDU. Reported on Madras High Court for
over fifteen months for NDTV HINDU and also Tamil Nadu State Assembly.
F. Contributed exclusive stories on politics, religion, films, publishing and culture to
Deccan Chronicle and NDTV HINDU.
G. Did an exclusive interview of Gajaani, female war photographer of the LTTE and an
exclusive story on reported forgery of MGRs will, for Deccan Chronicle, which were
well-received.
H. Did an exclusive first-ever interview with Ayesha who was arrested in the 1998
Coimbatore bomb blasts case for Deccan Chronicle.
India Today days:
1. When I was put in charge of the interviews page, through my personal contacts and reading I
have set a trend in India Today by calling in interesting personalities. To list out a few:
a. Tamil Novelist and Educator Ms Bama
b. Mr Vijayakanth just before the launch of DMDK
c. Mr M. K. Stalin, in a new phase in the politics of DMK
d. Mr S. Ramadoss, when his party, PMK, emerged as main critic of the government in 2007
e. Mr G. K. Vasan, when he was TNCC(I) President
f. Feminist historian and author Ms V. Geetha
g. broke the news that DMK Chief M. Karunanidhis daughter and poet Ms Kanimozhi will
be inducted into Rajya Sabha
I also interviewed celebrities such as Actor Surya, Kushboo, Prakash Raj and Jyothika.
4. 2. I participated vigorously in weekly editorial meetings and have been able to suggest ideas and
generate the support needed to carry these ideas out. Thus under my invitation respected Tamil
intellectuals and important political commentators have contributed columns and opinions to
India Today, allowing for the development of a multifaceted product.
3. Using my network across Tamil Nadu, I have been able to write stories on topics of relevance
to the development of the Tamil Nadu state and human interest stories. Some of these are:
a. District reports of Dharmapuri, Krishnagiri and Salem
b. Communal disturbances and conflict resolution in Tirunelveli district
c. Many stories on women's emancipation in different areas of Tamil Nadu
Other than these, my articles on child adoption, visually challenged people and Muslim women
in public spaces attracted a good response from readers and policy-makers.
4. My network across Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Puduchery regions has helped me recruit talented
stringers and photographers and publish articles of excellent standard and newsworthiness in
India Today
5. I have written occasionally for the English edition of India Today, which is published from
Delhi.
6. As an interesting aside, I must mention that an interview I did with actor Ms Khushboo
created a nationwide stir and also gave me my first opportunity to translate and publish
my interview in the English edition of India Today. This was six years after I had joined the
magazine.
7. Full-time Reporting and Editing for India Todays Tamil Edition for seven and half years.
8. Contributed to India Today-English occasionally. I have written about the Karunanidhi
Dayanidhi Maran tussle and PMK chief Ramadosss criticism of the DMK regime.
9. Prolific writing on politics, films, business, arts and literature.

Dinamani, Chennai (May, 1998).
