On June 8, 1972, Nick Ut photographed a napalm attack in Vietnam. The photo showed a naked 9-year old girl, Phan Thị Kim Phúc, running down the road while crying and screaming, after being burned by napalm dropped by South Vietnamese Air Force planes. The photo, which came to be known as the "Napalm Girl" photo, brought attention to the human suffering caused by the Vietnam War and helped turn public opinion against the war. Nick Ut was awarded the Pulitzer Prize for this iconic photograph.
