3. Introduction:
?The type of synchronous motor whose rotor is made of permanent
magnet and its stator is identical to that of an induction motor. The
presence of magnetic field on the rotor allows rotor to move at
synchronous speed with stator field. Widely used in industry due to
its high performance characteristics:
? Compact
? High efficiency (no excitation current)
? Smooth torque
? Low acoustic noise
? Fast dynamic response (both torque and speed)
? A synchronous motor differs from an asynchronous motor in the relationship
between the mechanical speed and the electrical speed.
26. Advantages & Disadvantages
? Elimination of field copper loss.
? High power density.
? Lower rotor inertia.
? More robust construction of motor.
? Higher efficiency.
? Loss flexibility of field flux control
? Re-magnetization effect
? Higher cost
