7. Charismatic
Obamas combination of confidence, assertiveness, and congeniality fits the profile
of a charismatic leader. Specifically, Obamas profile indicates that he has an
extraordinary mix of ambitious, dominant, and outgoing traits foundational to the
political skills required to advance a personal vision, connect with people, and
inspire followers.
Obamas level of ambition is at a moderate level that generally conveys self-
confidence, social composure, poise, level-headedness, stability, and charm rather
than narcissistic self-absorption or arrogance.
Similarly, Obamas modest degree of dominance finds expression in deliberative,
forceful assertiveness rather than the hot-headed combativeness found in more
extreme variants of this particular tendency.
8. Barack Obama as a transformational leader rather than a transactional
leader. There are many reasons for this. Firstly, he is very engaging with
his audience. It is clear that he is trying to make connections with the
American people to help motivate them to follow him. This is a classic
trait and example of transformational leadership.
Another reason is that, through his speech he comments a lot on his
dedication to the working class but also refers to the middle class
too. This shows that he is trying to appeal to the majority of the
population of America. By relating to them, and showing his
commitment to them he is making a connection. This in turn will help
motivate them to follow him
Transformational
10. One of the critiques of President Obama that has some merit is that he is
pretty risk-averse. He doesnt take a lot of chances on things that might
prove to be failures. For example, the President has been very clear about
the fact that he would have preferred a single payer health insurance
system. But he knew that the chances for failure with that were way too
high and so he went for a more modest change to our current system with
Obamacare.
The one time I can think of that the President took a big risk that didnt
pay off was when he attempted to negotiate a Grand Bargain with Speaker
John Boehner. That one failed. But I also think that after all his talk of
wanting to engage in bipartisan reform, he had to at least give it a go or
prove himself to be yet another politician made of empty promises.
Risk Taking
11. A deliberate decision of Mr. Obama was to surround himself with
people that don't necessarily agree with his views. This way, the
President will gain different perspectives on difficult issues. If his
cabinet were to contain people that constantly agree with him, he
could make purely 'Obama' choices all of the time, and the right
decision might not always be made- nobody's perfect.
Decision Making
