Ph determination
Objective
By a serious of diferent steps we will determine what is the best
form to make the cabbage juice and to calculate the level of
PH(potential hidrogen ) of the food, garden and others utilities of
the scale of PH.
Variables
Manipulated: making juice of cabbage of different forms. Put it on
the soaps
Resulting: what is the best form to make the cabbage juice. The
color of the soap and concentration according to the intensity of
cabbage juice.
One example of Alkaline vs acid in our body
 Stomach acid: the parietal
cells of the stomach secrete
hydrochloric acid that bring
the stomach pH to a range of
approximately 1.5 to 3.0.:
 Pancreatic juices is alkaline
and they are found in our body
to reduce the acid of gastric
juices. This happens because it
have a concentration of
bicarbonate ions.
Ph determination
Forms to make the liquid to measure the PH
Home made
1.-Boil water with purple cabbage
2.-Crush the cabbage with alcohol
3.-Let it rest for 5 hours
Laboratories made
4.- PH measure
Number 1
 BOIL WATER FORM :
 Cut the red cabbage leaves
Put it in water and heat until is boiled
Separate the cabbage and the water
 Let it cool
Ph determination
Number 2
 Crush the cabbage with alcohol
Cut some leaves of the cabbage
 Put alcohol in a bowl
 Mix the leave and alcohol
Use a blender or a mortar to crash them
Take out the leaves of the cabbage
Ph determination
Number 3
Let it rest for 5 hours:
Cut the cabbage leaves and put it on a bowl
 Pour some water
Let it rest for 5 hours
We call this technic the five hours method

We will use a fabric made
PH band
Test of cabbage use
We will use this ph scale
If it is alkaline is
good for the skin
but if it is acid it
is bad depending
the part of the
body.

Number 10
Almost neutral
NUMBER 9

Number 11
Some how neutral
Why red cabbage can detect the PH???
The purple cabbage has anthocyanin that are found in pigments.
When we boil, crash or let it rest the water we liberated
pigments of the cabbage and that rebelled PH
The color change is due to a structural change induced by
protonation or deprotonation of the species.
Conclusion and results
Results
The 5 hours method is the one who reveal PH. we let it rest work
very good because it have more intensity of the color and this
helps us with our experiment and give us more clues.
Conclusion
There are many forms to do this experiment. If you want to make
it home made, use number 3. This liberate more the pigments
reveling better the potential hydrogen. We comprobe this because
in the same product is was more intense the color than the other
forms
Besides
The best soap was number 4 because is was made for babys and
the care of skin. The worst one was DEJA number 1 that have a
weak acid level, but still acid. The acid will dry your hands.
We recomend you to dont use dust soaps because they are bad
for your skin.
Opinion
With this experiment we learn how to do a measure the ph in a
natural form. We learn that not all the soaps are good. This was
interesting because we bring something that can only be made in
laboratories and we made It in our houses.
