PHOTOSYNTHESIS
     UNIT-6
WHAT IS PHOTOSYNTHESIS?

The process that occurs in green plants, whereby
solar energy is converted into chemical energy and
stored as organic molecules by making use of
  carbon dioxide, sunlight and water.

 WHO OR WHAT CAN PHOTOSYNTHSIZE?

1. Photoautotrophs can photosynthesize.
2. Include: green plants, algae, cyanobacteria and
   green protists
RAW MATERIALS OF
             PHOTOSYTHESIS?
Carbon dioxide,
Sunlight and
Water.

WHY DO PLANTS PHOTOSYNTHESIS?
To provide nutrients and oxygen for heterotrophs
are dependents, because they cannot produce
 there own food.
PHOTOSYNTHESIS CONSIST OF 2
             STAGES:

LIGHT REACTION PHASE DARK PHASE/CALVIN CYCLE
 Dependent on light Light independent
WHERE PHOTOSYNTHESIS OCCUR?
THE PROCESS OF PHOTOSYNTHESIS
MAIN PIGMENTS USED DURING
         PHOTOSYNTHESIS
Chlorophyll a- Absorb violet, blue and red light.
Reflects and transmits green light (that is why plant
 leaves appear green).
Chlorophyll b- Absorb violet, blue and red light.
Reflects and transmits green light (that is why plant
 leaves appear green).
Carotenoids- Play an accessory role in
photosynthesis. They are shades of yellow and
orange are able to absorb light in the violet- blue-
green range. There pigments became noticeable in
the fall when chlorophyll breaks don.
