Phrasal verbs are usually two-word phrases consisting of verb +
adverb or verb + preposition, the combination creates a meaning
different from the original verb alone. Phrasal verbs add colour to
spoken language.
BREAK DOWN
It is when someone is sad and he or she
starts crying
When his wife broke down at his funeral,
relatives and friends tried to comfort her.
BREAK UP
It is when someone ends your relationship
with him or her.
I broke up with my first boyfriend after I found
out he was seeing someone else.
COME BACK
It is when someone returns to a place.
They said they loved their holiday here and they
will come back next year for sure.
CUT BACK ON SOMETHING
It is when somebody less consume
something.
My doctor wants me to cut back on
sweets and fatty foods.
GET IN
It is the action when you enter a place or a
vehicle.
You will need a house key. You can't get in
without one.
GIVE IN
It is the moment when somebody reluctantly
stops fighting or arguing and finally yields.
My boyfriend didnt want to go to the ballet,
but the finally gave in.
KNOCK OUT
It is the moment when you are hit so hard
that you lose consciousness.
Jackson knocked out Steven in the eighth
round and won the fight.
LOOK UP
It is when you try to find information by
looking in a book or on a computer.
If you can't figure out what a word means,
look it up in the dictionary.
TELL OFF
It is the action to strongly shout someone
for doing something wrong.
My teacher told me off for getting to class
late. She was really angry with me.
THROW UP
It is the action of vomit the contents of the
stomach.
Jim drank too much beer and threw up in the
toilet.
