Having good personal hygiene practices means taking care of yourself and leading a
healthy lifestyle.
Personal hygiene habits and techniques should be instilled by parents to their
children at a very young age.
Personal hygiene includes cleaning all areas of your body on a daily or regular basis
to prevent odor and keeping up with your appearance.
Personal hygiene is more than just staying clean -- it can affect your self esteem and
how others view and approach you.
Makes one look attractive, Helps build self-confidence and better appearance.
PERSONAL HYGIENE AND GOOD GROOMING
Taking care of your body through good
personal hygiene not only helps you
present a outwardly groomed appearance,
it's also good for your health.
Across the world, hygiene habits have a
direct correlation to illness and survival,
reports the Centers for Disease Control and
Prevention.
Throughout the day, your body comes into
contact with dirt and bacteria. Incorporate
hygiene practices that keep your body
healthy and clean.
Significance
The body works hard every minute of the day,
cleaning and flushing toxins. This is done through
sweat, skin shedding, tears, urine, saliva, ear wax,
feces and body oils.
As toxins are released and the body continues to
age, some of these functions can prove to be
odorous and unsightly, especially sweat.
The Girls Health website explains that even
through sweat can often times go undetected, if
not washed off properly, it can lead to body odor.
While these bodily functions are natural, they can
contribute to poor hygiene practices if not
addressed daily.
DENTAL CARE
Having healthy teeth helps you avoid expensive dental work,
cavities, gum disease such as gingivitis, periodontal disease
and bad breath.
The National Institutes of Health reports that other problems
such as preterm labor and heart disease may be aggravated
by unhealthy teeth.
Brush a minimum of two times a day using a fluoride
toothpaste and a soft-bristled toothbrush to avoid damaging
your gums.
Gently floss your teeth once a day, using the technique
recommended by your dentist.
Brushing your tongue helps remove bacteria and freshens
your breath.
HANDWASHING
Washing your hands and keeping them clean is your first line
of defense in protecting yourself from illnesses spread by
other people through personal contact or contaminated
surfaces.
Wash your hands frequently, including after using the
bathroom, when making or eating food, and after you touch
your own nose or mouth.
Wash your hands by wetting them, then soaping your fingers,
the backs of your hands, around your nails and your palms.
The CDC recommends washing your hands for 20 seconds. In a
public restroom, turn off the faucet with a towel or your
elbow. If you are unable to wash using soap and water, use a
60 percent alcohol-based sanitizer.
HAIR CLEANSING
Whether your hair is long or short, keeping it clean makes it
shine and helps you look healthy and well groomed.
Being outdoors in the wind, sun and rain damages your
hair and causes it to dry out.
Wash your hair with a shampoo designed for your hair
type, whether dry, fine, coarse or normal.
Wash your hair every day if it tends to be oily, and less
frequently if you have dry hair.
Wet your hair thoroughly, pour a quarter to half-dollar sized
dollop of shampoo in your palm and work the shampoo
through your hair.
Gently massage your scalp. Rinse thoroughly and apply a
light conditioner.
BODY AND SKIN CARE
Keeping your body clean and smelling fresh by washing off
visible and microscopic dirt and bacteria.
Your skin covers your body and protects your organs from
harm. Wash your entire body, from forehead to toes, with
soap.
Use an antibacterial soap for your body and a gentle facial soap
for your face and neck. Use a clean washcloth to distribute the
soap evenly over your body and rinse with clean water.
Shower daily, or more often if you are exposed to chemicals or
dirt. Wash under your arms and scrub your feet.
Apply deodorant under your arms after you dry off.
The Hair, Nails, and Makeup:
Three Pillars of Beauty.
Confidence makes you beautiful and beauty makes you confident!
OK, maybe we can't all be as beautiful as that. But always remember two things: every woman is already beautiful,
and every woman can be even more beautiful! It's simply a question of appreciating yourself, highlighting your natural
beauty to project your own self-image, letting it shine through, and then finding out what happens next! Remember:
every woman defines her own beauty.
The fact is, we receive more respect not just from men but from other women too when we make ourselves look
good and show our self confidence. When we dress well, take care of our hair, and apply makeup skillfully, it affects
the behavior of those around us in a positive way. And that makes us feel better and increases our confidence and
self-esteem. And that gains us more respect, which makes us feel and look even better, and the cycle repeats. You've
heard of the vicious circle? This is the virtuous circle The Cycle of Beauty!
Beauty is a state of mind. It's not question of whether you're "pretty" or "plain", young or old, thin or not thin it's a
matter of your self-image:
When you look good, you feel good.
When you feel good, you look even better.
And then you can do ANYTHING!
For the hair, most men and women go to the beauty salon every week
because our hair is special and deserves the very best of care! Beauty parlors
are an important part of our culture.
For the nails, almost all women these days go to nail salons because you can find them
everywhere and today's nail technicians can do amazing things that we can't do ourselves.
Nails are a very special part of our beauty because even when we're not wearing makeup
or our finest outfits, even when our hair is not at its best, our nails still make a striking
statement of elegance! Well cared-for perfect nails are the mark of a competent,
confident, healthy woman, so we should never neglect them!
The third pillar of beauty is our makeup. We don't go to a salon for that, we apply it ourselves
every day. Makeup is the most important of all because it is our face that projects our
deepest essence, that interacts with other people when we speak with them, when we look
in their eyes, laugh, or show our opinions or feelings through our facial expressions. Our face
is where people look when they want to know us or understand us.
When applied correctly, makeup enhances your own natural beauty, it calls attention to your best features and it can
conceal or deemphasize any flaws. It helps you to project your own sense of yourself. When it is done tastefully and
skillfully along with wardrobe, hair, and nails it reveals the competence, attention to detail, pride, and sense of self
that are the mark of a modern successful woman.

COLOR COORDINATION
-Color coordination is one of the most important things when it comes to style. A well-thought outfit
always has an advantage as opposed to an outfit that has not been so carefully put together.
-Well-coordinated outfit colorwise always looks more harmonious and elegant than something worn at
random, unless you are so lucky and pick your colors right at random.
-Some color schemes tend to look more formal, while others will always be more appropriate for casual
outfits.
-When you are putting together an outfit, it is recommended that you wear not more than three colors.
These should not be in the same amount: you should have a primary color, a secondary and a tertiary.
Note: you can use these schemes for any pieces and that they are not limited to bow ties, pocket squares
and shirts or jackets.
The primarycoloris the one that occupies most of the colored space, while the tertiaryis the one that occupies the
least. If you have any other pieces you need to put on and dont know what color to pick, the safe bet is to wear
neutral colors.
Neutrals-are colors that go with anything. These are: black, white, gray, khaki, etc.
Hue and color
basically mean the same thing and refer to the color family or the basic color of a certain shade. For example, blue is the
color root for navy.
Tint
is also called a pastel. It is any color to which white has been added, resulting in a paler version of the root color.
Shade
is the opposite of a color: it refers to any color with black added.
Tones
are created by adding both black and white to a color. A color mixed with gray is often called a grayed down color. Tones
can be more soothing to the eye as they are not very strong. Some people consider them more subtle, complex and
sophisticated.
