WHAT IS A STROKE?
A stroke (CVA- Cerebro Vascular Accident) can be caused by bleeding in the brain or by a
blood clot that blocks blood flow to the brain.
Post-Stroke Symptoms: Difficulty walking, speech impairment, and trouble with small
everyday tasks (ie: picking up a fork).

WHAT IS A PHYSICAL THERAPIST?
Physical Therapist (aka "PT's") aid the injured or ill to help
improve their patient's movement and/or ability to cope
with pain they may be experiencing.
-Requires a Doctoral degree
-Average Pay: $82,390/year

EXERCISE IS
KEY
 Exercise intensity is of ample importance when
dealing with a patient whose suffered from a
stroke.
 The process should be slow, deliberate, and
progressive
 Increase intensity with improvement
EXAMPLES OF EXERCISES Sit-to-stand transfers
 Climbing stairs for repetitions
 Standing leg raises
 Hip extensions
 Walking for distance

 Symptoms of post-stroke may include: Motor skill deficiencies, difficulty
walking, trouble in performing simple tasks
 Exercise intensity should be stressed in a deliberate manner, slowly
increasing intensity with improving conditions
