Pictorial Self Learning Module (Maths) Circle And Its Elements Class VI Previous Knowledge:- (1) Students have studied maths up to class V. (2) They recognize the photographs. (3) They recognize the circular shapes in the picture. Objectives:- (1) Students will know about the elements of the circle like radius of the circle, centre, diameter, arc, and circumference of the circle. (2) Students will know about the relation between the above elements. (3) By measuring the pictures they will be able to use the relations between the above given elements. Material Required:- Photographs, compass, scale, etc with the help of these, elements of the circle will be taught and by measuring them their relations can be find out . ii
1. Students are taught circular shapes. Students understand the circular shape. iii
2. Students are taught: How to draw the circular figure. Students draw the circular figure according to the picture. iv
3. Students are taught: How to draw a circle with the help of a compass. Students draw circles with the help of compass according to the picture. 4. Students are taught: How to draw circles of different sizes with the help of a compass. Students draw circles of different sizes with the help of a compass according to the picture. v
5. Students are taught: Centre of the circle. Students understand: Centre of the circle according to the picture. 6. Students are taught: Radius of the circle. vi
Students draw the radius of the circle according to the picture. 7. Students are taught that radii of a circle are equal. vii
Students draw more than one radius, measure them and find they are equal. 8. Students are taught: Diameter of the circle and relation between diameter and radius of the circle. viii
According to the picture students:-i. Draw the diameter of the circle. ii. They measure the diameter and radius of the circle and find it is double the radius. iii. Radius is half of the diameter. 9. Students are taught: Chord of the circle and also told that diameter is the largest chord of the circle. ix
According to the picture students i. Draw the chords of the circle. ii. Measure the diameter of the circle and find that it the largest chord of the circle. 10. Students are taught: Arc of the circle. According to the picture students i. Make arc of the circle. ii. They understand the major and minor arc of the circle. x
11. Students are taught: Semicircle. According to the picture i. Students draw the semicircle. ii. They know that semicircle is also arc. xi
12. Students are taught: Circumference of the circle and also told how to measure the circumference of the circle. According to the picture students i. Understand the circumference of the circle. They measure the circumference with the help of thread. xii
13. Students are taught: Relation between the circumference and diameter of the circle. According to the picture students: - i. Measure the circumference of the circle. ii. They also measure the diameter of the circle. iii. They find that circumference of the circle is more that the thrice of the diameter. xiii
14. Students are asked to match the elements of circle i. O i. diameter ii. OB ii. chord iii. AB iii. arc iv. CD iv. centre v. CED v. semicircle vi. AFB vi. radius According to the pictures students self evaluate the errors and find the correct answers. xiv
