Pietroasele is a commune in Romania composed of six villages located on a hill and plain. It is known for several archaeological sites including a Dacian citadel and Gothic treasures. Viticulture is the main economic activity, particularly growing the aromatic Tămâioasă românească grape variety. A research center for viticulture is run by the University of Agronomic Sciences and Veterinary Medicine in Bucharest. The government restored viticulture in the 1930s by introducing varieties from France and Italy. Today, Pietroasele continues to produce the most aromatic Muscat varieties in Romania, taking advantage of the south-facing slopes and dry soil.
