The plan outlines 7 steps to respond to an escaped Sumatran tiger: 1) Sound the alarm and assess any injuries, 2) Cordon off the area and secure remaining tigers, 3) Evacuate public to safety, 4) Have a vet with tranquilizer gun locate the tiger, 5) Reach the sedated tiger with backup drugs and firearms, 6) Move the unconscious tiger safely back to its enclosure, 7) Optionally reverse the anesthesia once the tiger is secured.
2. Step one – Sound Alarm

escaped tiger including vet and
dart team

public, keeper or the tiger
? Locate direction of movement
4. Step two – Cordon off Area

? Make sure that remaining tiger
is secure

up with loaded rifle
? Using CO2 dart gun ideally in wide
enough location to sedate and go
down
8. Step five – Reach Tiger
? Aim to get to the tiger as soon as
it has gone down
? Have plenty of top up drugs to
hand as well as armed gun
9. Step six – Move
? Make sure that animal is still breathing ok
following anaesthesia
? Plan where animal is going and how
? Lift the Tiger into secure vehicle for
transportation
10. Step seven – Wake up
? Only if animal is secured back in
enclosure would 6ml of Atipamazole
be considered to reverse
? Stand everybody down
? Debrief
