MINING OF MINERAL RESOURCES
(SEPARATING MINERALS FROM
WASTE)
MINERALS EXAMPLES
Copper
Zinc
Gold
Silver
SEPARATION METHODS
 MAGNETIC SEPARATION.
FLOTATION.
MAGNETIC SEPARATION
Magnetic minerals such as iron ore can be
separated from non-magnetic wastes with the use
of strong magnets (electromagnets) in the
mining industry.
In the picture is the mixture of non-magnetic
sulfur and magnetic iron filings.
FLOTATION
Flotation is the method that makes use of density separation.
This happen with the mixture of water and minerals, with an
addition of chemicals to form bubbles (in the slurry-the muddy-like
mixture).
These bubbles pop up through the slurry with minerals attached
to them.
Thus the minerals are easily collected.
