Planet Project
You are about to become an expert on a planet in the solar system! It will be the job of
your group to create a presentation that will give the rest of your classmates all the
information they need about your planet. This project will be the majority of your grade
for this six weeks, so it is important that all of you participate and do your best.
Your group will be responsible for creating the following:
 Compiled research data
o I have created a post on Canvas that contains links that you might find useful to
research your planet. Once you have finished with all of your research, one member
of your group will compile that onto the data form for your group. If you end up
using any data or information from some other source, please cite your sources.
 Presentation
o I will provide the template, which you are highly encouraged to use. (File Make
a copy)
o Every member of the group should plan to have a role in the presentation, although
it doesnt have to be a speaking role.
o This will be part of your group grade from me as well as a grade from the class.
 Poster (24"36")
o At a minimum, your poster should contain the following:
Class period
Name of planet
Planetary symbol
Picture or drawing of the planet.
Cutaway drawing of the internal structure of the planet.
Chart of physical characteristics (from research data sheet)
o I will provide scissors, glue, and colored markers and pencils. Your group is
responsible for providing everything else you need for your poster.
o This will be part of your group grade from me as well as a gallery walk grade from
all of the Astronomy classes. The poster voted best overall will also receive a bonus.
 Kahoot quiz
o One person from each group should set up a Kahoot account at kahoot.com.
o Create a five- to eight-question quiz that the class should be able to answer after
your presentation.
o Try to include a relevant picture with each question.
o Set all question time limits to 30 seconds.
o This will be part of your group grade from me based on how well you designed your
quiz.
Because your classmates will be receiving a quiz grade for this, if I feel you have
created an unfair question, I will adjust their grades accordingly, and your group
will be severely penalized.
Planet Project
General Information
I have shared with you a project presentation template. Please make a copies of it for
you to edit (File menu).
Rubrics for each part of the project are available on Canvas.
As you do your research, be sure to save pictures and files to a shared folder so that
everyone has access to them, especially the people making the presentation and the
quiz.
It is up to your group how you divide up the labor, but make sure that everyone has a
role and something to do. Remember, you will be judged by each other based on your
usefulness to the group.
Go through the project rubrics before the due date to make sure you have covered
everything Im looking for.
 Presentation guidelines:
o For all our sakes, please, please, please rehearse your presentations beforehand,
especially pronounciations.
o Do not spend your time with your back to the room while you read from the slides.
This is very tedious for your audience.
o Please speak clearly so that everyone can hear you.
o Not everyone in a group has to be part of the presentation, but be aware that you
will be rating each other for overall usefulness to the group.
o Standing in front of the class is not the time to work out problems in your group!
 Deadlines are as follows (A/B):
o Jan. 29/30 Copy of research data turned in
o Jan. 29/30 Mercury, Venus and Mars presentations
o Jan. 31/Feb. 1 Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, and Neptune presentations
o Feb. 4/5 All posters due; group evaluations due
o Feb. 6/7 Poster gallery walk; review for test
o Feb. 8/11 Test over planets
o Feb. 15 End of six weeks
Grade breakdownyou will receive the following grades for this project (classification):
o Research data (project)
o Presentation, poster, and Kahoot quiz design grade with group evaluation
factor (project)
o Presentation review by class (classwork)
o Poster gallery walk review (classwork) (Bonus for favorite poster)
o Kahoot quiz for each planet except your own (6) (quiz)
o Planet test (2*quiz)
**Notice that this project is responsible for eleven grades this six weeks!**
