Plants can move in response to light, gravity, or touch through tropic or nastic movements. Tropic movements include phototropism, the growth of plants toward or away from light, and geotropism, the growth of plant roots downward and shoots upward in response to gravity. Nastic movements are non-directional and involve epinasty, hyponasty, or seismonasty in response to environmental factors like touch.
