Polish families observe several Christmas traditions, including decorating the Christmas tree and having a Christmas Eve supper with twelve dishes including fish and cabbage. Families give their best wishes, share wafers, and children believe Santa Claus brings gifts which they unpack after seeing the first star. On Palm Sunday, people carry palm trees to church to be blessed, and on Easter families fill baskets with decorated eggs, bread, butter and other foods to be blessed for Easter breakfast on Sunday and Monday. Other Polish traditions include symbolically drowning a straw figure on the first day of spring, decorating graves on November 1st, and trying to predict the future on St. Andrew's Eve.
