Military spending is $780 billion annually compared to only $13 billion spent on basic health and nutrition. Poverty affects over 1.6 billion people without electricity and half the world's population faces water problems. Poverty is a global issue, not confined to specific regions, and is often due to circumstances outside of people's control.
