Media Fellowship Programme:

We support media to explore how data journalism can
improve newsrooms ability to report and commentate.
Visualisation:

Most South Africans
dont believe that
granular data exists
- and even if it does,
they believe it is too
complex for ordinary
citizens to use
meaningfully.

Local Context:

People relate to what they can see.
Local information has more impact
than national statistics.

Not just pretty pictures:
Data journalism is about telling
stories in new ways

Data isnt the story:

It can help you find it but it wont
tell it for you.

How it works:

- 6 month long fellowships with technical and project
managerial support.
- Week long iterations with a focus on
experimentation and rapid turn-around
- Long term sustainability
