Nutrition is the sum of the processes
involved in the taking in and the
utilization of food substances by which
growth, repair and maintenance of the
body are accomplished. It involves
ingestion, digestion, absorption and
assimilation.
Good nutrition is very
important because it provides
us with the needed calories
and nutrients for our
maximum energy and
wellness.
Calories are units of heat that measure the energy
used by the body and the energy that foods supply
to the body.
Nutrients are substances in food that our body needs
to grow, repair itself and to supply with energy.
There are seven major classes of nutrients:
carbohydrates, fats, fibre,minerals, protein,
vitamins, and water.

-refers to the condition where
an individual consumes an

WAYS TO PREVENT MALNUTRITION
 Maintain a balanced diet with a variety of foods to
ensure adequate intake of essential nutrients.
 Educate yourself about nutritional needs and make
informed food choices.
 Always consider the Food Pyramid Guide
 Drink plenty of water
