Krashen 1985 supports the concepts of
an affective filter and comprehensible input.
According to Krashen, if the filter is set low
enough and plenty of comprehensible input is
available, there is no need to teach the
language or its grammar as such.
Widdowsons 1990 is a dissenting voice:
