Abraham Lincoln was the 16th president of the United States. He was born in 1809 in Kentucky and moved to Indiana as a child. Lincoln worked as a store clerk and became known for his honesty, earning the nickname "Honest Abe." He began his political career in 1834 when he was elected to the Illinois General Assembly. Lincoln married Mary Todd in 1842 and they had four sons together. He helped create the Republican party and opposed the Dred Scott decision.
