Abraham Lincoln was the 16th president of the United States. He was born in 1809 in Kentucky and moved to Indiana as a child. Lincoln worked as a store clerk and became known for his honesty, earning the nickname "Honest Abe." He began his political career in 1834 when he was elected to the Illinois General Assembly. Lincoln married Mary Todd in 1842 and they had four sons together. He helped create the Republican party and opposed the Dred Scott decision. Lincoln was elected president in 1860 on the Republican ticket. As president, he led the country during the Civil War and signed the Emancipation Proclamation, which freed slaves in the Confederate states. Tragically, Lincoln was assassinated by John

  • #3: Born in a log cabin. Hardin county is now Larue county. Lincolns had moved due to slavery, and they belonged to a baptist church that disagreed with slavery. Interesting fact: Abraham was thought to be dead after being kicked in the head by a horse in 1818.
  • #5: Abe was 24 years old at the time of his first election and a member of the whig party. After he was elected Abe began to study law. 1836- Leader of Whig Party. 1838- reelected once again, defended a man in a major murder trial,
  • #6: In 1850 lincolns first son dies from a two month illness.
  • #8: At the first public convention lincoln gets 110 votes for the vice president spot, and starts campaining up to that. Major slavery case that had an out come ruling in slaverys favor, lincoln was disgusted.

  • #13: 1864 Defeats George b. Mclellan, Lincoln recieves 212 of 233 electoral votes and 55 percent of popular vote.
