Not only did you share your excellent surgical skills and keen eye to spot the trouble, but you treated Bernie and the whole family with such compassion and respect! We really appreciate the extra time you took to explain things so we would understand (not baffling us with “medicalese”), and even giving us a spontaneous visual aid to help make sure we understood what you had discovered. Obviously, Hamot Heart Institute employs the best heart surgeons and nurses, but it is your humanity that keeps the HEART beating in Hamot! Fortunately I don't remember much from my stay, but I remember that you watched my monitors very closely and you were attentive all night. I never felt alone or forgotten. When I started to feel a little better, you went above and beyond the call to help me pass the time. Because you took such good care of me, my family could leave at night to get sleep knowing that I was in good hands. - 7. Why We Love Hamot Nursing Kayla Troupe Thanks for taking such good care of me. I don't really remember my time on 6 South, but my family was so impressed with how knowledgeable and attentive you were. Even at the end of a long shift,on a weekend, you recognized I was in trouble. Even though my vitals seemed normal, you went the extra mile to make sure I got the help I needed. You spent extra time making sure the next nurse knew all about what happened during the day, and we couldn't believe it when you came back at 8 (an hour after your shift) to check up on me. My daughter said, “Even after that horrible day with you,Kayla said she would try to be assigned to you again tomorrow. How cool is that!” You made a lasting impression. You went above and beyond to help my daughter locate a lost package and flowers, and you took the time to empathize with me and share personal experience to help my family better understand what I was going through. My family refers to it as “the fun floor” because you all did whatever you could to keep the mood light and comfortable there. You were not only attentive and knowledgeable, but your sweet personality just made it easier to face the treatments and waiting. - 12. Why We Love Hamot Nursing Katie Stanton Wow! In a hospital with such a great nursing staff, you managed to stand out to me and my entire family. You took such good care of me during some pretty rough days (actually, I don't even remember them, but my family says that is for the best). And when I started to feel better, you remembered important, small details about me that made my last day in ICU so much easier and more comfortable. On a floor that is so stressful, your calm manner and attention to personal detail are priceless. Keep studying hard and acing those tests! Never lose your gift with people. You made me feel so comfortable during my stay on 5 South, and you seemed to know exactly what I needed to keep me in the right state of mind. Of course, you earned a permanent spot in my now fully repaired and awesome heart when you stopped by after your shift to visit me when I was on 6 South after surgery. It meant a lot to my whole family that you would follow up with me, and it just shows how much you truly care about your patients/people.
