Why Did Christianity Die Out in Northern Sudan?Peter HammondFor over 1000 years, Christianity was the dominant religion in northern Sudan. However, by the late 15th century, the Christian kingdoms had fallen due to attacks from Muslim Arabs. The Christian faith then died out in northern Sudan due to a combination of factors: the churches' overdependence on foreign clergy who could no longer access the region once contact was cut off; lack of literacy and Bible teachings for common people; and the churches being too closely tied to political powers so that they fell along with the Christian kingdoms. Today, northern Sudan is officially an Islamic state.

art in Vietnam and Westernthaitd2911Vietnamese and Western architecture share some similarities but also have key differences influenced by their cultural backgrounds. Both traditions use architecture for palaces, religious structures, and living spaces, with some shared building materials. However, Vietnamese architecture was shaped more by Buddhism and feng shui principles, featuring curved roofs and wood carvings. Western architecture drew from Greek and Roman styles and religious influences like Christianity. The structural designs and decorative elements therefore differ between the two regions.
The Culture in West Side of TurkeyMerve ÖzdemirThe Aegean side of Turkey occupies the western part of the country along the Aegean Sea coast. Some of the notable places in the region include Izmir, Turkey's third largest city, the historic clock tower in Izmir's center, and Efes Antique City, an ancient Greek city. The culture is predominantly Muslim but respects other religions. Popular foods include Izmir meatballs, stuffed vine leaves, keşkek wheat dish, and telkadayif dessert. The traditional dance is called zeybek and features distinctive costumes and music. Daily life is modern though some traditions like deep friendships and bringing food to funerals persist.
PentecostSaint John WestminsterIn the Old Testament, Pentecost was the Jewish harvest festival of Shavuot. It celebrates God giving the Ten Commandments and the birth of Judaism. On Pentecost, Jewish farmers would present the first fruits of seven species at the Temple in Jerusalem in thanksgiving. The disciples were celebrating Pentecost in the Upper Room after Easter when the Holy Spirit descended upon them with tongues of fire, allowing them to speak in all languages. This event marks the birth of the Catholic Church and the ability to preach Christ's word universally.

Cultural Landscape in Asian ModernityKenneth WongThis study is to investigate the relationship between the cultural landscapes in Asia and Asian Modernity. The cultural landscapes chosen are from the UNESCO World Heritage Listing, up to 2013. The second variable, modernity, is the result of simultaneous and contradictory influences and consequences of homogenization, pluralization, and hybridization of the material and non-material items.
The basic information of Asian countries, where the cultural landscapes are situated is to ground a foundation for readers to understand the location of the site, its’ population and density, ethnic majority, governance system, and followed by the nominated criteria of UNESCO. The sites are then linked to the contemporary backdrop to reveal the great diversity of the interactions between humans and their environment over the time span, to see whether they are sustaining the traditional living cultures, and to see how the current politics, socio and economic circumstances influence the sites.
The analysis is based on four categories: (i) Early human settlement and spiritual sites (Grottos and sacred sites), (ii) Economy and cultural activity prove (plantation, mining and trading route), (iii) Ancient township and empire remains, and (iv) Intentional human intervention landscape. Out of the 17 cultural landscapes in Asia, 16 are considered highly relevant with its modernity, except Gobustan Rock Art Cultural Landscape (Azerbaijan).
To draw the relationship in this study, it is inevitable subjective. It prompts further question whether the result would be different if the continent would have changed? Also, since the result is positive, it further urges the relevant institutions to further brainstorming on what could be done, either through urban upgrading, humanitarian improving, rehabilitation of heritage, sustainable urban conservation and etc., to further enhance the cultural landscapes in this modern day.

Essentials of a Good PMO, presented by Aalok SonawalaAssociation for Project Management APM event hosted by the South Wales and West of England Network (SWWE Network)
Speaker: Aalok Sonawala
The SWWE Regional Network were very pleased to welcome Aalok Sonawala, Head of PMO, National Programmes, Rider Levett Bucknall on 26 February, to BAWA for our first face to face event of 2025. Aalok is a member of APM’s Thames Valley Regional Network and also speaks to members of APM’s PMO Interest Network, which aims to facilitate collaboration and learning, offer unbiased advice and guidance.
Tonight, Aalok planned to discuss the importance of a PMO within project-based organisations, the different types of PMO and their key elements, PMO governance and centres of excellence.
PMO’s within an organisation can be centralised, hub and spoke with a central PMO with satellite PMOs globally, or embedded within projects. The appropriate structure will be determined by the specific business needs of the organisation. The PMO sits above PM delivery and the supply chain delivery teams.
