Cave paintings and rock art date back thousands of years, found inside caves and on cave ceilings in Spain and France. The paintings depict animals like reindeer and bison, and symbols of unknown meaning. They were created using pigments like animal fat and natural dyes applied with hands or crude tools. Though thousands of years old, some of the paintings have survived due to stable temperatures and humidity inside the caves, the most famous being found in the Lascaux Caves in France. The paintings provide insight into the lives and beliefs of prehistoric humans.
