This document discusses the issue of landmines, including their usage, effects, and efforts to address the problems they cause. It notes that landmines were first widely used in World War 2 and have since killed far more civilians after conflicts than soldiers during wars. Several countries like Afghanistan and Iran remain heavily affected by landmines, with millions of hectares of land contaminated. Efforts are being made to ban landmine use and neutralize affected areas, but this faces challenges due to the high risks and costs involved.
