Harare Institute of Technology (HIT) is a technical college in Zimbabwe that was established in 1988 and granted degree-awarding status in 2005. It provides engineering programs and has a technology center that conducts research and commercializes technologies. One project developed by the center is a microcontroller-based egg incubator that uses sensors to monitor temperature and humidity and controls a motor to automatically rotate the eggs. The incubator hardware includes sensors connected to a microcontroller, along with heating, cooling, and motor control circuits. The software monitors temperature and humidity levels and controls the heating and motor based on set thresholds.

2. INTRODUTION
Harare institute of technology(HIT) is a Zimbabwean educational institution
established since 1988 as a national vocational training centre involved into a
Technical College offering electrical,mechanical and automotive engineering
courses,producing artisans capable of operating and maintaining machinery in

6. The technology center conducts research, design, manufacture, develop,
incubate, transfer, and commercialise technology for all sectors of the
economy.Therefore it can be classified as operating under R&D industry
The major products developed by the technology center include the solar
based Vegetable Driers and the Microcontroller Based Egg Incubator.Other
products from Insti-Holdings include: soy-yoghurt, soy-milk, soy-sour milk, ice
cream and mineral water.
Talking about corporate culture, there is a positive workmate relationship
amongst the staff members and a high level of team work in execution of
duties focusing on meeting one goal at a time.
7. HIT is still expanding and has engaged to promote and nurture the
development of high school students for tertiary studies. The technology
center offers visits to high school students in around the department
workshops. By so doing the institute is improving its relationship with the
society.

10. The project was designed to develop a microcontroller based system of an
egg incubator mainly for chicken poultry production using the temperature
and humidity sensors that measures the condition of the incubator and
automatically rotate the position of the egg by use of DC motor. The project
development was divided into three main sections namely
mechanical,electronic and software designs.
Incubation is the process by which birds hatch their eggs through the
development of the embryo within the egg. Air ventilation is very important
during the incubation process. While the embryo is developing, oxygen
enters the egg through the shell and carbon dioxide escapes in the same
manner
The three main elements that are to be controlled for the incubator to
produce good results are air ventilation, temperature and humidity

13. The major pats are master controller circuit, slave controller circuit, heater
controller circuit and power supply circuit. The master controller circuit
interfaces the temperature and humidity circuit, Liquid Crystal Display (LCD),
heater and fan. For the slave controller circuit, it interfaces with DC motor
circuit attached to the egg tray.
The LM35 series are precision integrated-circuit temperature sensors, whose
output voltage is linearly proportional to the Celsius temperature.It does not
require any external calibration or trimming to provide typical accuracies
of賊14Cat room temperature and 賊34C over a full 55 to +150C
temperature range.
14. Because of its output range, affordability and long term stability,the humidity
sensor HMZ333 was used in this project
The wiper DC motor was chosen because of its low speed rotation to
eliminates the issues of gearing or speed control using Pulse Width
Modulation (PMW). Also the wiper motor can carry heavy loads.
15. SOFTWARE DEVELPMENT
The code was written and tested in parts/functions separately before the
whole code was compiled. The main parts of the projects include the
temperature(36-39degree celcius)and humidity Monitoring and Control
codes and the DC motor control code.
