Sue Hart teaches family and consumer science classes which now focus more on subjects like child development, adolescent psychology, and independent living rather than just cooking and sewing. She discusses how participating in a TEAM program has impacted her life, including having less free time due to collaborating with other teachers and learning new technologies like Dreamweaver. She overcame her fear of public speaking by practicing in front of her class. Her goal is to use what she learned to create useful resources for students, teachers, and families affected by cancer.

1. Sue Hart Family & Consumer Science Teacher So, What is it that you teach???
2. SO you are the cooking & sewing teacher….. Somehow that statement brings up an image of an elderly grandma whose only joy in life is to cook and sew for her family. When I am asked what it is that I teach, I know an explanation will usually follow. After all, first there was Home Economics (the Cooking & Sewing), then there was Home & Careers, and now it is Family & Consumer Sciences - even we FACS teachers get confused! By the way - it is a lot more than COOKING & SEWING these days. So just for the record I teach Gourmet Foods, Cultural Foods, Child Development, Adolescent Psych & Independent Living. .
3. Before TEAM…… I never had to worry about getting home on time for Grey’s Anatomy on Thursday night. My family saw me more often( is that good or bad? I will leave that up to you…) and my dog didn’t bark at me when I came home. Just kidding - she actually barks at all of us every night as if she has no idea who we are - I never said she is a smart dog but she is cute! HI mom! Bye mom!
4. My life now…… Learning how to navigate Dreamweaver!! Collaborating at Ayse’s with great food and Dunkin’ Donuts. Navigating Dreamweaver!!!! Workshops and……. Hot Java!
5. More of my life now.. Good friends Always knowing where I will be certain Thursday nights! Less fear of technology! And don’t forget navigating through Dreamweaver!!!!
7. Conquering Fears If you ask my family or my students I can’t imagine they would say I have a problem with talking in public or anywhere else for that matter. However, if you ask Nancy or anyone in my group they will tell you that my heart was pounding, my knees were knocking and I was a lovely shade of green when I had to speak in front of Class the first few times. Thankfully it is easier now!
8. How do you spell success? I think it would be the development of a web quest that can actually be used by my students. Which of course also meant using Dreamweaver!!! OH THOSE BUTTONS!!
9. The CAUSE A site where teachers, students, and family members who have been affected by cancer at some point in their lives can turn to as a central place to find links to resources within their own communities. We put together a really useful site but the topic was too close to home for some of us this year and way too heavy a subject!
10. WHAT I WANT TO LEARN How to use Web 2.0 tools successfully in at least one of my classes. CSS More about Digital Photography And last but not least - that there is life after Dreamweaver!
