This document provides a summary of a micro lesson presentation on compounds and chemical reactions. The presentation was given by a group of 6 grade 9 learners. The learning objectives of the presentation were to teach learners the first 20 elements, write their symbols, classify elements, differentiate atomic and mass numbers, write and balance chemical equations, and explain rust and how to prevent it. The question paper that assessed learners had different cognitive level questions ranging from lower order multiple choice to higher order questions and was out of 50 marks over 1 hour. A memorandum was provided to mark the questions.

3. LEARNING OBJECTIVES
LEARNERS SHOULD BE ABLE TO:
? Name the first 20 elements in the periodic table.
? Write the chemical symbols of the first 20 elements.
? Interpret the periodic table in terms of the classification of
elements (metals, semi-metals and non-metals)
? Differentiate between atomic number and mass number.
4. LEARNING OBJECTIVES CONTINUED...
? Represent chemical equations using models and symbols.
? Balance chemical equations
? Explain the meaning of rust.
? Explain methods of how rust can be prevented.
6. STRUCTURE OF THE QUESTION PAPER
The question paper is out of 50 marks and will be
written in one hour. It consists of different cognitive
levels as encouraged by the CAPS document, in the
paper there are low order questions which will weigh
40%, middle order questions which will account for
45% and the higher order questions will account for
the last 15% of the marks.
