Too much pressing oil on the hair.
Overly frequent hair pressing & curly.
Overly heating the pressing comb & marcel irons.
Burning the skin, scalp & hair.
TEMPERING YOUR THERMAL TOOLS
PRESSING COMB or MARCEL IRONS
By tempering your thermal tools it allows the comb or iron to hold heat evenly .
Outline how to temper a pressing comb & marcel irons
1. Place the comb into the heater or stove until very hot.
2. Remove the thermal iron by holding it with a towel or heating pad.
Caution:(sometimes the handle will get hot because you are over heating the thermal tool.)
3. Coat the comb in petroleum gel or pressing oil.
4. Repeat step 1-2 at least 3 times for a good temper comb.
Note:(Do not wipe of petroleum gel or pressing oil. Thermal tools will cause smoke to come out
of heater or stove when repeating the process it is okay for tempering thermal tools only.)
5. Cool and wipe.
HEATING of YOUR THERMAL TOOLS
Review heating of the pressing comb or curling iron
Curl or press only clean, dry hair.
On chemically treated hair (tinted, relaxer, or lightened) use thermal tools on lower heat settings.
Proper balance thermal tools in the heater or stove when heating.
Do not place handles inside or to close to heater or stove. It will damage them or heat them up.
Over heating can damage the ability of thermal tools to hold heat uniformly.
Test temperature of thermal tools by using a white sanex strips or thin paper towel.
Handle hot thermal tools careful to not burn you or client.
Place hot thermal tools somewhere safe while they are cooling.
Do not use metal combs when using thermal tools. It can heat up the comb causing you to burn the scalp.
Use only hard rubber or non-flammable combs .
Place a comb between the scalp and the thermal irons only to prevent burning of the scalp.
CLEAN OF THE PRESSING COMB or MARCEL IRONS
Identify how to clean your pressing comb or marcel irons
Wipe it clean of loose hair, grease , and dust after every use.
Remove carbon by rubbing the outside of barrel or comb, inside of barrel,
and between the teeth of the comb with an emery board, fine steel wool
pad, or fine sandpaper.
The intense heating of the comb or iron keeps it sterile.
Special Note:----- For extra care.. You can immerse the metal portion in
a hot baking soda solution for one hour. Rinse & dry thoroughly. This will
give your tools a smooth & shiny appearance.
