Canine
Parasites with
a Vet in Simi
Valley
Canine parasites can
cause a range of health
problems from minor
skin irritation to serious
gastrointestinal issues.
The most common
type of canine
parasites include
fleas, ticks, and
intestinal worms.
Fleas can transmit
diseases like typhus &
tapeworms, while ticks
can carry Lyme diseases.
Regular visits to the vet for
check-ups & vaccinations can
help prevent some parasites.
Tapeworms
Canine tapeworms are one of the most
common parasites found in dogs.
Tapeworm infection can
vary depending on the
severity but may include
weight loss, diarrhea, and
vomiting.
In some cases, dogs may
experience abdominal
pain and a general
feeling of ill-health.
Fleas
If your dog has fleas, then you may notice
him itching and biting more than usual.
He may have spots of
blood on his fur or skin,
as well as bald patches.
In severe cases, dogs can
develop anemia from flea bites
& you might see fleas crawling
on your dogs fur or skin.
If you part your dogs hair,
you might get flea eggs or
flea dirt that appear like
small black specs & turns
reddish brown when wet.
Ticks
Canine ticks are
particularly dangerous
because they can
transmit diseases to
dogs such as Lyme
disease & ehrlichiosis.
Symptoms of these
diseases varies, but may
include fever, lethargy,
joint pain, and loss of
appetite.
Ticks are often found in
tall grass or underbrush,
so it is important to check
your dog for ticks after
walks in wooded areas.
Intestinal Worms
There are a number
of intestinal worms
that can infect dogs,
each with their own
set of symptoms.
The most common is the
round worm, which can
cause diarrhea, vomiting,
and weight loss.
If the infection is
particularly bad, it can also
lead to anemia and death.
