Problem solving is an important skill that goes beyond mathematics. To fully engage students, teachers should relate material to students' lives outside the classroom. Successful problem solving involves students first working individually, then collaborating in groups. It also requires balancing guided learning with opportunities for creative thinking so students develop problem solving abilities as well as gain relevant information.
