The document discusses several problems faced by children with leukemia and their families in Turkey. It notes that treatment for leukemia takes 3-3.5 years, causing children to fall behind in school. It also discusses social issues like exclusion of leukemia children by friends due to misconceptions, masks being seen as signs of infection, lack of blood and donor finds, poverty preventing treatment, and parents losing jobs due to time off for care. Overall it aims to raise awareness of the challenges faced and need for support of children with leukemia and their families.
2. STAYING AWAY FROM
SCHOOL
Primary school age children can’t
go to school because leukemia
treatment requires a long process
about 3 or 3.5 years. Repetition of
the same class affects children’s
psychologies badly. That’s why
hospital schools help to solve the
problem but their numbers are
limited, so, many children can’t
benefit. Also, with meb’s traveller
teacher application, children can be
educated at home. Families mostly
care about health. That’s why
education is the second plan for
them. Families must be conscious
and grasp that the life is going on.
3. EXCLUSION OF LEUKEMIA KIDS BY
FRIENDS
Families abstract their children from
leukemia kids because of being unconscious.
They think if their children communicate with
leukemia kids, they will get the disease or their
psychologies will be damaged. But situation is
different in real. Leukemia is not infectious. But
because of having not enough information,
public think that leukemia kids will never heal.
4. BECAUSE OF MASK, IT IS THOUGHT
THAT IT IS INFECTIOUS
Leukemia patients’ immune
systems are very sensitive for
germs and infection and
because of this, their
treatment may delay.That is
why they wear mask but
public think that people who
usemask are dangerous.
5. CAN’T FIND BLOOD FOR
LEUKEMÄ°A PATIENTS
To heal, the most important
thing is finding appropriate
blood, bone marrow and donor.
In our country, patients face
with difficult situations
because there is a lack of stock
in blood centers, lack of
volunteer because of
unconsciousness and not
increasing the number of bank
of bone marrow and donors.
6. POVERTY
Leukmia treatments are very expensive.
Challenging is difficult for people who
don’t have social security. Government
pays drug and hospital expenses of people
who have social security but it is seen that
they face with economic difficulties
because there are food, shelter expenses
and family become insufficient.
7. JOB FIRINGS OF PARENTS
BECAUSE OF OBTAINING MANY
PERMISSIONS TO STAY FOR
PATIENTS IN HOSPITAL
Lots of mothers and fathers become
unemployed because they have to obtain
permission to stay with patients to help
about drug, blood etc. But companies fire
them. To prevent this situations,government
must make new regulations.
