A laser printer uses a laser beam to define an electrostatic image on a negatively charged drum, which is then developed, transferred, and fused to produce high-quality text and graphics. It was invented in 1969 by Gary Starkweather, Butler Lampson, and Ronald Rider at Xerox Palo Alto Research Center.
