Pecha Kucha is a simple presentation format consisting of 20 slides, each displayed for 20 seconds. It was created in Tokyo to avoid lengthy presentations and encourage sharing ideas. Pecha Kucha events are held worldwide in various venues and open to presenters on any topic. The fast-paced format keeps presentations brief but focused, and allows audiences to see many ideas in an evening. Benefits include public speaking practice, networking, and sparking new conversations.

PKN Handshake Agreement - I We have a very simple Handshake agreement with each city basically to ensure there is only one event series per city and people are not treading in one another toes. Pecha Kucha Nights take quite a bit of organizing and the more networks the better so we think it is better for cities to focus on one event.
PKN Handshake Agreement - II The handshake agreements are free, and renewed each year. Cities must organize a minimum of 4 events a year to qualify as an active city.

  • #19: A Lightning Talk is a short presentation given at a conference or similar forum. Unlike other presentations, lightning talks last only a few minutes and several will usually be delivered in a single period by different speakers. The length of talks are usually between 1 and 10 minutes with a 5 minute limit being common. In order to allow rapid changes between speakers, slides may either be discouraged or a single computer running a Presentation program is used by all speakers. Ignite is a style of presentation where participants are given five minutes to speak on a subject accompanied by 20 slides. Each slide is displayed for 15 seconds, and slides are automatically advanced. Pecha Kucha is a similar format that features 20 slides for 20 seconds each Speed geeking is a great way to quickly view a number of presentations and demos in a short while. For example, one hour is enough time to view 12 presenters if you spend 5 minutes at each presentation. The 5 minute limit also keeps presentations short and interesting. Each presenter has to give their presentation multiple times.
