PROPERTIES OF MINERALS
Minerals are solid substances that form
rocks.There are some properties.
Minerals have different colours:
Copper looks green and blue.
Ruby looks red.
Emerald looks green.
Sapphire looks blue.
COLOUR
CRYSTAL FORM
Minerals grow as crystals.
Some crystals are cubic, for exaple
pyrite.
Some crystals are like pyramids, for
example quartz.
HARDNESS
It means how easy it is to
scratch a mineral.
Talc is the softest material
because it is very easy to
scratch.
Diamond is the hardest
material. It is impossible
to scratch.
LUSTRE
It means how a mineral
reflects the light.
Galena has a metallic
lustre.
Calcite has a non-
metallic lustre.
