The American Psychological Association (APA) has developed standardized methods for citing print and
electronic sources used in research.
Entries in the reference list are arranged in alphabetical order by the last name of the first author, followed
by the initials of the authors first name. Entries have a hanging indent (second and subsequent lines of
citations are indented).
Names: Last name, followed by first and middle initials (separated by periods).
Titles: Titles of articles, books and book chapters are in sentence case - capitalize only the first word, proper
nouns and abbreviations that are ordinarily capitalized. Names of periodicals are capitalized headline style
(capitalize all words except for prepositions and common conjunctions).
Dates: Use the order: year, month day.

Editor's Notes

  • #13: EBSCO also provides access to the Psychology and Behavioral Sciences Collection, offering full text access to almost 300 journals, with particularly strong coverage in child and adolescent psychology and counselling.
  • #16: Add keyword search terms (single or multiple) in the appropriate search boxes, select the Boolean OR operator. Select the TI and AB field codes from the drop down menu.
  • #17: In addition, to user behaviour, we also need to note the steps the APA take to review the Thesaurus of Psychological Terms to adapt to current and emerging research. As you see, from these examples, we now have Climate Anxiety, Human Displacement, Intergenerational trauma etc. reflecting the changing age we live in. More information on the APA thesaurus and the update is available on the APA website.
  • #19: You can expand an unqualified keyword search using the Expanders within the EBSCOhost interface to broaden you search. They do this by widening your search to include words related to your keywords or including the actual text of the full text results in your search.
