What is publishing and
distribution?
 Publishing means making information available to the public. In the past this
was done mainly through issuing printed copies of documents. Now there are
many more options such as websites, print, DVD, e-publications and apps.
 In computer software, distribution is the phase that follows packaging. The
package will be on some distribution medium, such as compact disc, or may be
simply located on a server where customers can download it electronically.
Bauer
 Bauer Media Group is a European-based media company,
headquartered in Hamburg, Germany that manages a portfolio of
more than 600 magazines, over 400 digital products and 50 radio
and TV stations around the world. The portfolio includes print
shops, postal, distribution and marketing services.
 Having entered the U.S. market in 1981 with the successful launch
of Womans World, Bauer Publishing U.S. now consists of 10
magazines across several distinct consumer segments:
celebrity/entertainment, womens, teen and science/technology.
Hearst
 Hearst is one of the nations largest diversified media, information
and services companies with more than 360 businesses. Its major
interests include ownership in cable television networks such as
A&E, HISTORY, Lifetime and ESPN; majority ownership of global
ratings agency Fitch Group; Hearst Health, a group of medical
information and services businesses; 30 television stations such as
WCVB-TV in Boston and KCRA-TV in Sacramento, Calif., which
reach a combined 19 percent of U.S
Time Inc.
 Time Inc. is a New York-based publishing company. It owns and publishes over
90 magazine brands
 Other magazines include Sports Illustrated, Travel + Leisure, Food & Wine,
Fortune, People, In Style, Life, Golf Magazine, Southern Living, Essence, Real
Simple, and Entertainment Weekly. It also owns the UK magazine house Time
Inc. UK, whose major titles include What's On TV, NME, Country Life, Wallpaper
and In Style.
