This document describes a flock management system called FRONTVISIBLEAREA. It interfaces with lighting and feeding systems to provide intermittent lighting synchronized with multiple mealtimes per day, rather than continuous ad-lib feeding. Commercial trials involving over 2 million birds showed benefits including 1% lower mortality, 40g higher weight per bird, better feed conversion, and 5 cents more profit per bird. The system analyzes feedback from the birds to determine optimal feeding amounts for each flock, providing full crops multiple times daily and empty pans before lights out.

1. FRONTVISIBLEAREA
WHAT IS IT?
It’s a practical on farm flock management system for smart
Broiler growers.
WHAT DOES IT DO?
It interfaces with your existing lighting and pan feeding systems
and gives intermittent lighting integrated with mealtime feeding.
The birds are fed several feeds a day instead of ad-lib.
WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS?
Nine commercial feed trials involving 2.2 million birds showed
one percentage unit less mortality, 40 grams more weight per
bird, 0.064 better FCR and 5 cents more profit per bird per
crop. Return on investment less than 6 months.
HOW DOES IT DO THAT?
Birds fill their crops several times a day. In the crop, the feed
soaks, the cell walls of the feed material burst so that the
contents are more digestible. Beneficial bacteria grow to
exclude other harmful bacteria, like Salmonella and
Campylobacter. So growth and FCR is better and there is less
feed protein excreted, which improves the litter.
The system gets feedback from the birds to
decide how much feed to give each flock
each mealtime. That’s unique to our
system. The birds tell FLOCKMAN how
much they need: faster growing flocks get
more than slower growing flocks. ALL the
birds get several full crops a day. On ad-lib
feeding, little birds get chased away
by bigger birds when they try to eat.
Pans are empty 1 to 2 hours before lights dim down,
so greedy birds can’t feed then. They don’t get obese
have heart attacks or as many leg problems.
