Punishment is judgmental and can include legal and non-legal forms, while sins stem from incorrect perception, feelings, and intentions, manifesting as errors, mistakes, misdeeds, and crimes that harm oneself or others. Prayashchitta refers to any action that awakens one to realize the Truth, which is a state of bright, buoyant bliss from feeling universally connected, united, and benevolent. Repeating names of divine beings (Namasmran) can wake one up to realize this Truth.
