Contemporary Art is the art of today, produced by
artists who are living in the twenty-first century. This Art
provides an opportunity to reflect on contemporary
society and the issues relevant to ourselves and the world
around us.
Art as mentioned, is the tangible output of creative
expression. It is a product of human creativity and skill to
express oneself and represented through its different
forms and disciplines such as literature, culinary arts,
media arts, visual arts, and performing arts.

1. describe various contemporary art forms and their
practices in different regions;
2. demonstrate appreciation of contemporary art forms,
found in the various regions by understanding the
elements and principles; and

Abstraction & Generalization
 Contemporary art is an art produced at the present
period of time and more focused on society it usually
reflects or comments on modern society by using
new techniques and materials, such as video and
multimedia technology while Traditional art is a folk
art, which encompasses arts produced from an
indigenous culture, it aims to represent reality or
realism through narrative.

Volcano This artwork is an example
of Traditional Art be-cause the
picture tells a story that represents the
reality of life and their way of living.
Upon looking to this artwork it
directly narrates a story that will
clearly tells us the message of simple
living and bayanihan. It also uses
symbolism like Salakot a native hat
used by farmers. Also the perfectly
coned Mayon Volcano that proves
that the location is in the Philippines

our first Filipino hero known to
be the first native to resist
imperial Spanish Colonization.

Contemporary Art Forms
1.Fine Art Use to describe the arts forms created primarily for its appearance
rather than its practical use.
Examples: Drawing, Painting, Sculpture, Print, Graphic art, Calligraphy,
Architecture
2. Practical Art It is the changing of raw materials for utilitarian purposes
and possesses ornaments or artistic qualities to make them useful and
beautiful.
3. Industrial Art- Changing raw materials into some significant product for
human consumption or use.
Examples: Shell Craft, leather craft, bamboo craft, shoe-making, pottery
making,
4. Applied or Household Art refers mostly to household arts such as flower
arrangement, interior decoration, dressmaking, home-making,
embroidery and cooking.

5. Civic Art City or town planning, maintenance and beautification of
parks, plazas, roads, bridges and farms, civic planning and
beautification in order to improve the standards of living.
6. Commercial Art involves business propaganda in the form of
advertisements in news papers and magazines, sign painting, billboard
announcements, leaflets, displays, poster designing and movie
Illustrations.
7. Graphic Art anything printed from raised or sunken reliefs and
plane Surfaces.
Contemporary Art Forms
8. Agricultural Art refers to agronomy (crop production)
horticulture (garden or orchard cultivation) husbandry (raising of
cows, carabaos, poultry and swine)
9. Business Art includes merchandising, accounting, book
keeping, typewriting, stenography, salesmanship and business
administration.
10. Fishery Art shallow and deep sea fishing, fish refrigeration
and culture and net.
Application
 Art surrounds life, all people in every location, without us
being aware of it. Since time immemorial, art has existed as
long as man has. It is a huge part of our culture, which shapes
our ideas, and vice versa, and provides us with a deeper
understanding of emotions and self-awareness.
 Art makes people optimistic about their future. Art can be used
to help spread a message of inspiration, making people achieve
great things in life. Art can be a form of communication
between people, to focus on common issues for the betterment
of humankind.
Application
Art influences society by changing opinions,
instilling values and translating experiences across
space and time. Art in this sense is communication; it
allows people from different cultures and different
times to communicate with each other via images,
sounds and stories. Art is often a vehicle for social
change.
Culture & Arts in Oton
The Golden mask found in Oton is an art introduced by
Spaniards. They used delicately worked sheets of gold
ornaments to cover the face of the dead. This great artistic
discovery bridges the gaps of the past and the present art in the
Philippines.
The old church of Oton was known as one of the best
and the only one of its style in the entire archipelago. It
resembled the Gothic cathedral of Byzantine. Greek and
Gothic architectural designs, patterned after a Greek cross
capped by a magnificent dome. This shows us that we have
a very artistic past that we must appreciate.
Culture & Arts in Oton
Sandiya festival in Oton is associated with the celebration of
Katagman Festival, where in the local products of Oton are
displayed. Pulo Maestravita, a popular Barangay in Oton
produces most of the biggest and sweetest watermelons in
town. They introduced fruit carving activity to appreciate how
talented Ogtonganons are.
Loom weaving is popular home-based tradition in the
Rural area in the Philippines, especially in the Visayas.
It is a kind of textile art during the Spanish period. This
product is known to be the first product in the locality
of Oton that is used for barter.
