Question 3
2. The importance of audience feedback
Throughout my G324 project. I have referred back to audience
feedback many times to ensure that my main products and ancillary
texts would appeal to them therefore making them want to buy from my
company. To gain audience feedback, I relied heavily on social
networking sites such as Facebook. During the planning of my main
products and ancillary texts, I put up a post asking what would you
expect to see in a fashion advert and what about it would appeal to
you?.
From my audience feedback, I have learnt the importance of gaining
audience feedback in order to make the product successful by
appealing to the audience. This meant that the product would
automatically grab their attention. Also I found that it was important to
show the products to the target audience to get feedback opposed to
someone who is not the target audience as it would mean getting
contrasting results which not be effective and reliable when reflecting on
my audience feedback.
3. Finding my target audience
When I decided that I wanted to create a fashion advert, I sent out a
survey to find out who the target audience would be. From this I found
that my target audience was both male and female ages 16 to 24 years
old.
This allowed me to reflect back to my target audience when deciding
what to include in order to appeal to them. For example, by knowing
the age range of the audience, I was able to include key elements
which the audience would be able to relate to.
Also I wanted to find about their lifestyle such as whether they are in
education or employment, and their hobbies in order to make sure that
the audiences lifestyle is reflected in my company.
4. Choosing my company name
The next step was to
come up with a company
name. Firstly I began by
coming up with various
company names which
can be seen in the mind
map to the right. From this
point onwards, I relied on
audience feedback to
chose my final company
name. I made a tally chart
with the people in my
class(who fit within the
audience) asking which
was their favorite
company name. The
results for this can be
seen in the bar graph on
the right. It was important
that I asked people who
would be the audience for
my company because
they would be the ones
who would potentially buy
from the company.
5. Choosing my company logo
Once I had the company name, I could begin
to create the company logo. I created four
different company logo, experimenting with
different front, colours and layouts.
I posted each logo on to my Facebook page
in order to gain feedback from my target
audience as they are the ones who the logo
needs to appeal to.
I also gave a brief description of the company
such it is for both genders aged 16-24 and
sells on trend clothing. I felt that it was
important that they knew this, as I wanted this
to be reflected through the company logo.
The Facebook page showed that the
audiences favorite logo was the forth one
therefore I chose this as my final company
logo. Some of the reason the audience gave
as to why this was their favorite was that it
was gender neutral therefore it was clear that
the company did not just specialize in one
genders clothing.
6. Feedback during construction
During the making of my adverts, I shared various version of the
adverts when adding clips, transitions and sound in order to gain
feedback. This meant that I could continuously improve things
which the audience had picked out. One of the main things which I
changed from audience feedback was the speed of the clips in
order to match the upbeat sound track.
With my pop-up, I posted different version on Facebook which I had
created and asked for the audience to choose their favorite and
why. This allowed me to understand why the audience chose each
one for example whether certain element stood out to them such as
the offer, colours, layout or photograph.
All of the audience feedback which I got for my construction was
took on board because I felt that the visual elements of the
company were most important as had to appeal and attract the
target audiences attention in order for the company to be
successful.
7. Feedback for Evaluation
To get feedback for my evaluation, I decided to use social networking sites
however I also used YouTube as it allowed them to be viewed by a wider
audience rather than just people in my class. This also meant that my
company could reached by different people who may not be my target
audience. This allowed me to get a variety of different responses and
feedback to reflect on.
I favored using Facebook for feedback as I was not limited to character
counts and seeing as it was only my friends list who could see it, I was sure
that the majority of the feedback would be from people who fit within the
target audience of 16 to 24 year old men and women.
Some of the feedback which I got for my main tasks said it looked as I
would expect a fashion advert to look and showed a fun, lively
atmosphere. This shows that the adverts met the audiences expectation
however some feedback such as unique way of editing however it works
well shows that challenging some convention can have a positive effect.
This can be linked to the theorist Steve Neil as he states that genre should
have similarities and differences in order to be effective to the audience.
8. Feedback for Evaluation
I also asked for feedback on my pop-up in
order to see whether it was successful in
achieving the aim of a pop-up. Again, I got my
feedback by posting the pop-up on my
Facebook page and asking question such as
What stands out to you? and How effective
is it in persuading you to look at the
companies clothing?. By giving guideline
question, it meant that I would get relevant
feedback which I would be able to reflect on
during my evaluation. A lot of the feedback
said that the student discount and free UK
delivery and returns stood out the most. I took
this on board as positive feedback as this was
I did a lot of research on in order to ensure
that the pop-up would be effective in making
the audience go and look at the companies
clothing. Also other feedback mentioned the
use of a gender neutral colour as being a
good idea in order to show that the
companies specialises in both male and
female clothing. However someone
mentioned that it could have been improved
by including a image of both a male and
female just incase the colour scheme was not
that obvious to all of the audience.
9. Feedback for evaluation
Lastly I asked for feedback on my
sponsorship sequence. Again, I
used Facebook to post the
sponsorship sequence along with
guideline question in order to get
relevant feedback which I could
reflect on. One of the questions
which I asked was Do you think
that it is representative of
TOWIE?. Many people relied with
feedback such as yes because of
the pub like surrounding and yes
because the models look as if they
would be in the program. This
positive feedback was important as
it meant that I would be effectively
reaching the target audience as
research showed that they would
also be the audience of The Only
Way Is Essex.
