The document reflects on the learning and improvements from the preliminary task of creating a college magazine to the full product of a music magazine.
Some key lessons learned were improving layout and design skills, learning how to effectively edit photographs in Photoshop, and having access to better photography equipment.
The full product showed significant enhancements over the preliminary task, with a bolder, more eye-catching masthead design; a more appropriate and appealing cover image; a coherent color scheme; and professionally styled text. The contents page was also expanded to a double-page spread allowing for more photos and information.

Question 7
1. QUESTION 7: LOOKING BACK AT YOUR
PRELIMINARY TASK, WHAT DO YOU
FEEL YOU HAVE LEARNT IN THE
PROGRESSION FROM IT TO THE FULL
PRODUCT?
By Tasnim Choudhury
2. Looking back at the Preliminary Task
â—¦ I think I have a learned a lot since creating my college magazine. One of which would
be that I learnt how to be more professional with layout and design which I was maybe
lacking on when creating my college front cover and contents page. Also, I learned
what colour schemes suit which font type or design the best, and I found out which
colour scheme combinations looked best in magazine
â—¦ I also, learnt how to edit photographs correctly using Photoshop, which is something I
was struggling with when attempting to create the front cover and my contents page.
â—¦ Another development I have made since the preliminary task is that this time I was able
to use a professional DSLR camera in a professional photography studio in order to take
most of the photographs for my magazine, whereas during the preliminary task I did not
have such facilities, therefore the photgraphs taken for that task may not have turned
out as good as they did when taking the pictures for my music magazine shoot.
3. Front Cover
• Comparing the front covers, I think they
have changed dramatically. Firstly, in
regards to the masthead we can see that
the masthead used for the college
magazine is not very bold and does not
stand out much whereas Bliss is bold, eye-
catching and it matches with the colour
scheme of my magazine.
• Also, I think that the image I have used for
my music magazine is much more
appropriate than the one used for the
college magazine. This is because the
model is making proper eye contact and
is posing in a way that is appealing.
4. Front Cover Con.
â—¦ I think that the colour scheme on my music
magazine is much better than the one on the
college magazine because there is an actual
scheme and there is no mix of different colours.
However, on the college magazine there seems to
be different colour everywhere on the magazine.
â—¦ Also, the headlines on the front cover are written in a
very unprofessional font which isn’t very appealing
even to teenagers and some of the writing is also a
little faded which makes it hard to read, whereas the
one on my music magazine on my music magazine
everything is in a professional looking font and is nice
and bold ensuring that many people can see it.
5. Contents Page
• The main difference that you can
see here is the page difference
where the college magazine
contents is only one page and the
music magazine is a double page. I
decided to do this because it
allowed me to put much more
information on the contents page
and it allowed me to make it look
much more professional.
• Also, the double page allowed me
to put more pictures whereas in the
college magazine I could only fit
one. The more pictures I could add,
the more information and detail
could be given.
