The taskforce conducted a systematic review and modified Delphi process involving multiple societies to develop guidelines. They concluded that for patients with platelet counts 70,000 x 106/L, the risk of spinal epidural hematoma is likely very low for those with gestational thrombocytopenia, immune thrombocytopenia, or preeclampsia, in the absence of other risk factors. However, the decision requires weighing patient risk factors, comorbidities, procedure risks, and patient preferences in the individual clinical context.
